  1. 1. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 2. 2. Molecular studies of the hepatitis C virus : the role of IRES activity for therapy response, and the impact of the non-structural protein

    Författare :Hannah Kim Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hepatitis C virus; IRES; viral translation; dual luciferase assay; therapy response; NS4B; topology; membrane rearrangements; membrane associated foci; Immunofluorescence; oligomerization; viral replication; bi-cistronic subgenomic replicon; replicon complex; mutations;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic hepatitis C can lead to life threatening conditions like cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. There are an estimated 170 million chronic carriers of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) world wide, making it a serious global health problem. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ribavirin : dose and concentration in treatment of chronic hepatitis C infected patients

    Författare :Karin Lindahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hepatits C; ribavirin; pharmacokinetics; renal function; plasma concentration; anaemia; population pharmacokinetic analysis; peginterferon; sustained viral response;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic hepatitis C infection is a global health problem with 170 million patients infected. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a leading cause of end stage liver disease. Current antiviral treatment options available are not optimal either regarding cure of disease or risk of side effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Clinical and immunological aspects of human parvovirus B19 infection

    Författare :Oscar Norbeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human Parvovirus B19; intrauterine fetal death; hematopoiesis; bone marrow suppression; gamma-interferon; immune response; cytotoxic T cell; acute infection; persistent infection;

    Sammanfattning : Human parvovirus B19 (B19) causes erythema infectiosum, a limited disease of childhood also known as the fifth disease or slapped cheek syndrome, referring to the characteristic facial rash. It normally infects through the respiratory route, even though transmission via blood products and transplanted organs occur. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hepatitis C virus kinetics during antiviral treatment

    Författare :Tony Carlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hepatitis C virus RNA; genotype; kinetics; interferon-alpha; ribavirin.;

    Sammanfattning : It is estimated that 170 million individuals have chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, whereof 20-30% will develop end stage liver disease within 20-30 years. Antiviral therapy can stop this deterioration and clear the infection in 40-80% of the patients depending on treatment and HCV genotype. LÄS MER
