  1. 11. Chemicals in consumer products : Towards a safe and sustainable use

    Författare :Linda Molander; Christina Rudén; Sven Ove Hansson; Mattias Öberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :consumer products; articles; hazardous chemicals; risk management; chemicals regulation; REACH; substitution; regulatory toxicology; European Union;

    Sammanfattning : Health and environmental risks associated with emissions of hazardous chemicals from articles, including everyday consumer products such as clothes and toys, have become widely acknowledged internationally, particularly in the EU. This thesis contributes to new understandings of how these risks are currently managed within the EU and recommends actions for ensuring a safe and sustainable use of chemicals in articles. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Microalgal solutions in Nordic conditions : industries transition toward resource recovery?

    Författare :Lina Mattsson; Catherine Legrand; Elin Lindehoff; Hanna Farnelid; Kristian Spilling; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microalgae; algal cultivation; polyculture; resource recovery; seasonal variation; industrial partnership; CO2 mitigation; nitrogen removal; community composition; Ecology; Ekologi; Environmental Biotechnology; Miljöbioteknik; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Microalgal solutions can through photosynthesis recover greenhouse gas (CO2) and nutrients from industrial waste, reducing climate footprint and eutrophication. An added value to the process is algal biomass containing lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates with commercial potential for biofuel, feed, and fertilizer. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Sustainable Development in Swedish Municipalities : To know, to be able, to want and to do

    Författare :Sofie Adolfsson Jörby; Erik Arrhenius; Högskolan i Kalmar; []
    Nyckelord :Sustainable development; Swedish municipalities; Hållbar utveckling; Agenda 21; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : A process of change like the building-up of sustainable societies can be visualised as four steps: to know, to be able, to want and to do. To pay attention to the appropriate measures and the best solutions implies a wide range of knowledge of natural and societal conditions. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Insights to beachcast management on Gotland, Sweden : An Industrial Ecology perspective on waste-resource ambiguity

    Författare :Hanna Nathaniel; Fredrik Gröndahl; Daniel Franzén; Sofia Lingegård; Johanna Spångberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Beachcast; natural resource management; policy; circular bio-economy; agroecosystems; governance; sustainable development; industrial ecology; Släke; naturresursteknik; policy; cirkulär bioekonomi; agroekologiska system; naturresursförvaltning; hållbar utveckling; industriell ekologi i; Industriell ekologi; Industrial Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Beachcast or beach wrack, washed-up algae and seaweed, used to be a highly sought-after agricultural resource (fertiliser and soil conditioner) in coastal communities around the world before being replaced by chemical fertilisers, but considering the talks of a circular bio-economy – can we reintroduce it? Since the abandonment of beachcast in agriculture, the amount of beachcast has significantly increased as an effect of eutrophication caused by the use of chemical fertiliser, and the material is commonly considered waste. Meanwhile, soils have degraded and need the multiple positive effects on agroecosystems that beachcast could provide. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Integrated evaluation of resource efficiency and cost effectiveness in production systems

    Författare :Michael Lieder; Bengt Lindberg; Peter Almström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; resource; efficiency; effectiveness; production system; evaluation; small and medium-sized enterprises;

    Sammanfattning : Improved use of resources is of enormously high relevance and crucial for achieving as well as maintaining a sustainable condition. Especially industrial production has a superior responsibility in creating a long-term viable way of living. LÄS MER
