21. Uncertainty measurements and validation of ocean colour data in optically complex waters
Sammanfattning : The thesis addresses validation activities associated with the use of in situ and satellite-based radiometers to assess water quality parameters, such as chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), total suspended matter (TSM) and coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM- also known as yellow substances, YEL) in CDOM-dominated waters. In paper I, an inter-comparison of in situ radiometers is presented. LÄS MER
22. Ecological and physiological aspects of contaminant accumulation and transport by the filter-feeding mussel, Mytilus edulis
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the influence of food availability on the bioaccumulation kinetics and the transport of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) by the Baltic Sea blue mussel, Mytilus edulis. In laboratory studies, food availability was found to significantly modify the rate of physiological processes involved in filter-feeding. LÄS MER
23. Baltic Sea from Space : The use of ocean colour data to improve our understanding of ecological drivers across the Baltic Sea basin – algorithm development, validation and ecological applications
Sammanfattning : Coastal areas are the most densely populated areas in the world and thus are under immense anthropogenic pressure. To ensure their function and ecological role, coastal areas require continuous monitoring and management. The rapidly emerging field of satellite remote sensing provides a unique opportunity to monitor both land and oceans from Space. LÄS MER
24. Char conversion kinetics and aerosol characterization in biomass gasification
Sammanfattning : Biomass gasification is a thermochemical conversion by partial oxidation at elevated temperature of solid biomass into a gaseous energy carrier. The product gas contains the major components CO, H2, CO2, CH4, as well as some tar and inorganic impurities and solid particles such as ash, bed material, soot and char. LÄS MER
25. Water Quality and Optical Properties of Swedish Lakes and Coastal Waters in Relation to Remote Sensing
Sammanfattning : Semi-analytical models for remote sensing of water quality parameters need to be parameterized with specific inherent optical properties. In this thesis, data on specific inherent optical properties of Swedish lakes and coastal waters is presented. Also, the problems of measuring in situ spectral backscattering are addressed. LÄS MER
