  1. 1. Carotid Artery Stenosis : Surgical Aspects

    Författare :Björn Kragsterman; Håkan Pärsson; David Bergqvist; Thomas Mätzsch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; carotid endarterectomy; carotid artery stenosis; carotid clamping; cerebral ischaemia; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Randomised controlled trials (RCT) have demonstrated a net benefit of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in stroke prevention for patients with severe carotid artery stenosis as compared to best medical treatment. Results in routine clinical practice must not be inferior to those in the RCTs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Existential issues in surgical care : Nurses’ experiences and attitudes in caring for patients with cancer

    Författare :Camilla Udo; Ella Danielson; Christina Melin-Johansson; Bertil Axelsson; Ingela Henoch; Britt-Marie Ternestedt; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer care; educational intervention; existential; nurses; surgical care; Hälsa och välfärd;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore surgical nurses’ experiences of being confronted with patients’ existential issues when caring for patients with cancer, and to examine whether an educational intervention may support nurses in addressing existential needs when caring for patients with cancer. Previously recorded discussions from supervision sessions with eight healthcare professionals were analysed (I), written descriptions of critical incidents were collected from 10 nurses, and interviews with open questions were conducted (II). 3. 3. Intracranial Compliance and Secondary Brain Damage. Experimental and Clinical Studies in Traumatic Head Injury

    Författare :Konstantin Salci; Per Enblad; Pelle Nilsson; Peter Hutchinsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; Traumatic brain injury; Intracranial compliance; Secondary insults; Microdialysis; Neurointensive care; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) renders the brain more vulnerable to secondary insults. The increased vulnerability can probably be explained by a combination of disturbances in hemodynamics, metabolism and craniospinal dynamics. Reduced ability to compensate for added intracranial volume, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hand function in patients with Dupuytren’s disease : Assessment, results & patients’ perspectives

    Författare :Christina Engstrand; Joanna Kvist; Barbro Krevers; Göran Nylander; Birgitta Rosén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Dupuytren’s Disease (DD) is a soft tissue disorder that leads to finger joint contractures affecting hand function. DD can be treated with surgery or injection and hand therapy to improve finger joint extension and thereby improve hand function. However, this does not cure the disease and recurrence is common. 5. 5. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome

    Författare :Hans Ravn; Martin Björck; Anders Wanhainen; Torben V Schroeder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; popliteal artery aneurysm; thrombolytic therapy; acute ischemia; surgical technique; long-term outcome; surveillance; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002.
