21. Carbon Dioxide Pneumoperitoneum - Hemodynamic Consequences and Thromboembolic Complications
Sammanfattning : The laparoscopic way of performing general surgical procedures was introduced all over the Western world in a few years around 1990. No previous scientific studies of the safety of this new way of performing general surgery had been undertaken. LÄS MER
22. Degenerative cervical myelopathy: Surgical treatment, imaging evaluation, and outcome
Sammanfattning : Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is the most common cause of spinal cord impairment in adults worldwide. The overall aims of this thesis were to compare patient-reported clinical outcomes, adverse events, and cost-effectiveness between decompression alone and decompression with fusion; evaluate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based sagittal alignment measurements; determine postoperative improvement rates and potential predictors of surgical outcome; and compare the patient-derived modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (P-mJOA) scale with the European Myelopathy Score (EMS) for the assessment of DCM. 23. Thoracic Aortic Surgery : Epidemiology, Outcomes, and Prevention of Cerebral Complications
Sammanfattning : The mortality of thoracic aortic diseases (mainly aneurysms and dissections) is high, even with surgical treatment. Epidemiology and long-term outcomes are incompletely investigated. Stroke is a major complication contributing to mortality, morbidity, and possibly to reduced quality of life. LÄS MER
24. Clinical results after hip fracture - with special focus on hip arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : Hip fractures are of major concern worldwide, but even if literature isabundant, there are still gaps to fill. The global outcome needs to be betterunderstood, including patient-reported outcome. Many studies focus onimproving surgical outcome, with less focus on medical complications. LÄS MER
25. Transurethral resection of the prostate: studies on efficacy, morbidity and costs
Sammanfattning : Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), based on benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), are increasingly common, in ageing men. A considerable amount of men will ultimately progress with deteriorating symptoms or with the occurrence of complications secondary to obstruction of the bladder outlet, for example, urinary retention (UR).
