1. Surgical Education Assessment of simulators for training and selection of trainees
Sammanfattning : BackgroundApproximately 15 % of surgical patients in hospital are affected of an adverse event, which is a medical error caused by the health care system. Laparoscopy is the preferred surgical technique in common procedures. LÄS MER
2. Parastomal hernia : investigation and treatment
Sammanfattning : BackgroundParastomal hernia is a common stoma complication causing the patient considerable inconvenience. The patient becomes aware of a bulge around the stoma, but a bulge is not always a parastomal hernia and diagnostics must be performed to enable differential treatment. It is difficult to distinguish between a bulge and a hernia. LÄS MER
3. In vitro and in vivo studies of tissue engineering in reconstructive plastic surgery
Sammanfattning : To correct, improve, and maintain tissues, and their functions, are common denominators in tissue engineering and reconstructive plastic surgery. This can be achieved by using autolo-gous tissues as in flaps or transplants. However, often autologous tissue is not useable. LÄS MER
4. Promoting the Clinical Relevance of 3D Bioprinting
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of methodologies enabling the reconstruction of autologous, functional, and long-term-stable cartilage-like tissue using 3D bioprinting technology and animal experiments. The stability, resilience, and in vivo viability of the printed cells and tissue vascularization, as well as the observed immunogenicity and safety, represent the main issues evaluated and discussed in this thesis. 5. Microcirculation in tissue repair - from microsurgery to 3D bioprinting
Sammanfattning : Microsurgical reconstruction is challenged by two main shortcomings: Perfusion Related Complication (PRC) and donor site morbidity. In the first 3 studies of this thesis, we aimed to provide solutions to PRC-problems, investigating hemodilution as a tool able to increase blood flow in flap microcirculation. LÄS MER
