  1. 11. Coordination Chemistry of Monocarboxylate and Aminocarboxylate Complexes at the Water/Goethite Interface

    Författare :Katarina Norén; Per Persson; Staffan Sjöberg; Stephan J. Hug; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acetate; benzoate; adsorption; surface complex; ternary surface complexes; ATR-FTIR spectroscopy; EXAFS spectroscopy.; cyclohexanecarboxylate; sarcosine; MIDA; EDDA; EDTA; gallium III ; goethite; mineral surface; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of five papers with focus on adsorption processes of various monocarboxylates and aminocarboxylates at the water/goethite interface. Interaction of organic acids at the water/mineral interfaces are of importance in biogeochemical processes, since such processes have potential to alter mobility and bioavailability of the acids and metal ions. 2. 12. Functionalized Biomaterial Surfaces by Micro- and Nanofabrication

    Författare :Sarunas Petronis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanofabrication; surface characterization; surface topography; surface chemical composition; marine biofouling; force-sensing substrates; microfabrication; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; cell-surface interaction; biointerfaces; biomaterials;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of biomaterials, well-defined nano- and micropatterns or features at material surfaces can serve both as models for investigating material-biosystem interactions and as functional features for inducing, hindering or measuring specific bioreactions or biologic responses. Important bioreactions include protein adsorption and conformation, cell attachment and function, and adhesion and function of organized tissues or whole organisms. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Photoelectron spectroscopy has been used as a main tool to study a number of III-V semiconductor surfaces. This thesis includes studies of a surface reaction, As/InP(110), thin heteroepitaxial layers, InAs on GaAs(111)A and GaAs on AlAs(100), and a diluted magnetic semiconductor, Ga1-xMnxAs. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface

    Författare :Eric Tyrode; Mark Rutland; Paul Davies; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sum Frequency Generation; SFG; VSFS; surfactant; adsorption; water; surface structure; hydration; surface tension; fluorosurfactants; liquid-air interface; poly ethylene oxide surfactants; surface molecular orientation; acetic acid.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk.
