  1. 1. Polymer-Mediated Interactions and Phase Behaviour of Polymer-Particle Dispersions

    Författare :Sara Haddadi; Beräkningskemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Simulations; Experiments; Particles; Phase transition; Stability; capillary induced phase separation; Polymer solutions; phase diagram; surface effects; Bulk properties;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between colloidal particles can be modelled by particles grafted with polymers. In this work, structural and physical properties of colloids are investigated under variation of parameters such as pH, ionic strength, and temperature, where aggregation and cluster formation can be monitored in aqueous solution. 2. 2. Crystallization of the superconducting phase in unconventional superconductors

    Författare :Patric Holmvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pattern formation; spontaneous symmetry breaking; Andreev bound states; mesoscopic superconductivity; phase crystals; thin superconducting films; phase transitions; non-local Ginzburg-Landau theory; time-reversal symmetry; flat bands; unconventional superconductivity; quasiclassical theory; translational symmetry; cuprates; inhomogeneous superconductivity;

    Sammanfattning : Superconductivity is a macroscopic quantum phenomenon, in the sense that a macroscopic number of electrons form a pair condensate, that occupies a single ground state. The electrons in this state are phase-coherent, breaking global U (1)-symmetry, and spatial variations of the phase imply superflows that usually cost kinetic energy, resulting in a uniform and rigid phase. 3. 3. Elements of modeling nanoparticle growth: Surface thermodynamics and dispersive interactions

    Författare :Joakim Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density functional theory; growth mechanism; gold nanorods; dispersive interactions; molecular dynamics; van der Waals forces; thermodynamics; CTAB; anisotropic nanoparticles; modeling; surface phase diagram;

    Sammanfattning : Metal nanoparticles have in recent decades been the subject of intense research owing to their wide range of size and shape-dependent properties, which makes them interesting candidates for a variety of applications. Gold nanorods represent a particularly intriguing type of particle due to their tunable plasmonic properties. LÄS MER

  4. 4. NMR Self-Diffusion Studies and Stability Studies of Emulsions

    Författare :Ingrid Lönnqvist; LTH Ingenjörshögskolan vid Campus Helsingborg; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coalescence; emulsion stability; size distribution; restricted diffusion; self-diffusion coefficient; self-diffusion PGSE NMR; surfactant; emulsifier; continuous phase; microemulsion; phase diagram; emulsion; multiple emulsion; cream; conductivity; Physics; Fysik; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to characterize emulsion systems by self-diffusion PGSE NMR methods. The specifics of the emulsions studied are all taken from the literature and they are of the W/O or O/W type stabilized with different emulsifiers. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Reshaping the phase diagram of YBa2Cu3O7-δ through strain in ultrathin films and nanowires

    Författare :Eric Wahlberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase-slip; strange metal; High-Tc superconductors; thin-films; underdoped; nanowires; YBCO; charge density wave;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at adding important pieces to the puzzle of understanding the physics of the High critical Temperature Superconductor (HTS) cuprates, where despite over 30 years of intense research many open questions remain. The HTS cuprates are characterized by an incredibly complex phase diagram with multiple intertwined local orders, such as charge density waves (CDW). LÄS MER
