  1. 1. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces

    Författare :Petra M Hansson; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Adam C Simonsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrophobic surface; superhydrophobic surface; atomic force microscopy; surface forces; capillary forces; cavitaion; surface roughness; friction; wetting; confocal Raman; contact angles; surface preparation; Langmuir-Blodgett;

    Sammanfattning : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 2. 2. Tyre/road interaction : A holistic approach to the functional requirements of road surfaces regarding noise and rolling resistance

    Författare :Tiago Vieira; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Ulf Sandberg; Tony Parry; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road; surface; noise; rolling resistance; tyre; mitigation; Vägbeläggning; vägyta; textur; buller; rullmotstånd; däck; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Increased fuel consumption, increased greenhouse gas emission, diminishing real-estate prices and increased health issues are some of  the negative effects on the climate, on the environment and on the society from tyre/road rolling resistance and noise. The first two aspects are affected by energy dissipation in the tyre/pavement contact and are related to rolling resistance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functionalization and characterization of surface supported lipid membranes and their application in cell culture

    Författare :Dorota Thid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cell - surface interaction; supported phospholipid bilayer; IKVAV; DHA; stem progenitor cells; neural cells; surface analytical techniques; QCM-D; surface functionalization; peptide; cell differentiation; cell attachment; membrane; fatty acid;

    Sammanfattning : Phospholipid bilayers supported on a solid surface constitute a versatile, biomimetic platform for a variety of applications, such as biosensing, drug delivery research, cell engineering and as cell membrane mimics in fundamental cell research. Phosphocholine supported lipid bilayers are resistant to cell attachment in a wide range of conditions, and can be functionalized with bioactive signaling molecules to promote specific interactions with cells. 4. 4. Numerical and experimental investigations of fluid-surface interaction

    Författare :Aidan Rinehart; Shervin Bagheri; Ugis Lacis; Anna-Lena Ljung; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; porous media; Brinkman equation; surface; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning :  Fluid-structure interactions play a central role in an overwhelming number of physical phenomena. All fluid dynamic students are familiar with the common assumption of a "smooth boundary". While this assumption often is enough to provide a high level understanding of the dynamics and physics at hand in practice this is not true. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functionalized Biomaterial Surfaces by Micro- and Nanofabrication

    Författare :Sarunas Petronis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanofabrication; surface characterization; surface topography; surface chemical composition; marine biofouling; force-sensing substrates; microfabrication; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; cell-surface interaction; biointerfaces; biomaterials;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of biomaterials, well-defined nano- and micropatterns or features at material surfaces can serve both as models for investigating material-biosystem interactions and as functional features for inducing, hindering or measuring specific bioreactions or biologic responses. Important bioreactions include protein adsorption and conformation, cell attachment and function, and adhesion and function of organized tissues or whole organisms. LÄS MER
