1. On Surface Topography of Cylinder Liners
Sammanfattning : The frictional losses, oil consumption and emissions in internal combustion engines are in great extent controlled by the cylinder liner surface topography. This emphasises the importance of: investigating the liner’s topography by objectively characterising it, investigating its effects on the tribological function to gain a better understanding and improving its manufacturing. 2. Numerical Studies of Flow and AssociatedLosses in the Exhaust Port of a Diesel Engine
Sammanfattning : In the last decades, the focus of internal combustion engine development has moved towards more efficient and less pollutant engines. In a Diesel engine, approximately 30-40% of the energy provided by combustion is lost through the exhaust gases. The exhaust gases are hot and therefore rich of energy. LÄS MER
3. Flow-induced Surface Defects and Ageing Behaviour of Injection-moulded Polymers
Sammanfattning : Injection moulding is one of the most commonly used manufacturing methods for the production of polymer-based components such as car bumpers and other automotive details. The surface appearance of these products is of great importance since it is directly connected to the perceived quality. LÄS MER
4. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Sammanfattning : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 5. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites
Sammanfattning : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion. This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization.
