1. Surface Complexation Studies in An (Th, U(IV), Pu(VI)) Systems
Sammanfattning : Two-phase systems containing an electrolyte solution and a suspended solid were studied. The common denominator for the three systems examined in this work is that they contain actinides (elements of atomic numbers between 89 and 103) in either the solid phase or as a sorbate. Experiments were done on simple oxides. LÄS MER
2. Measurement and Modelling using Surface Complexation of Cation (II to VI) Sorption onto Mineral Oxides
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to experimentally and theoretically study some surface complexation models and how well these can be applied to a simple system. This is done while keeping in mind the interest in including some type of chemical model in performance assessment calculations for much more complex systems. LÄS MER
3. Surface complexation in natural particle suspensions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of our studies on (i) the proton and copper adsorption at aqueous illite surfaces, (ii) the proton and copper complexation of humic substances (fulvic acid FA and humic acid HA), (iii) the interaction between illite and fulvic acid, and (iv) the copper complexation behaviors in illite-FA bi-complexant systems. These particular studies were designed to help us develop a framework for modelling heavy metal complexation/adsorption mechanisms at natural particle surfaces. LÄS MER
4. Sorption and Surface Complexation of Plutonium
Sammanfattning : Plutonium is a constituent of spent nuclear fuel. As such, its behavior in contact with the surfaces of solids is of interest. This behavior will affect the migration of plutonium in case it is released into the environment. The chemistry of plutonium is rather complex. LÄS MER
5. Aqueous Processing of WC-Co Powders Aqueous processing of WC-Co powders
Sammanfattning : The object of this work is toobtain a fundamental understanding of the principal issuesconcerning the handling of WC-Co powders, in an aqueousmedium. The oxidation and dissolution oftungsten carbide powder dispersed in water was investigatedusing X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and leachingstudies.
