  1. 11. Manufacturing and Characterization of Cellulose Nanofibers

    Författare :Carl Moser; Mikael Lindström; Gunnar Henriksson; Kristin Syverud; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose; Nanofibers; Characterization; Homogenization; Endoglucanase; TEMPO; Specific surface area; Atomic force microscopy; Cellulosa; Nanofibrer; Karakterisering; Homogenisering; Endoglukanas; TEMPO; Specifik ytarea; Atomkraftmikroskopi; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : The usage of wood has been a dominant driving force during the evolution of the human species. It allowed us to cook food, build tools, put roofs over our head and explore the world. The fibers making up the tree has been the most important way to store and transmit knowledge in the form of paper for centuries. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Preparation and Characterization of Glow Disharge Modifies Titanium Surfaces

    Författare :Björn-Owe Aronsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Titanium; surface modification; surface properties; plasma techniques; oxidation; surface spectroscopy; TiO2; biomaterials;

    Sammanfattning : The main theme of the present thesis is controlled preparation and characterization of oxidized titanium surfaces. Such surfaces are of general technological interest. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Fundamental Characterization and Technical Aspects of a Chelating Surfactant

    Författare :Ida Svanedal; Håkan Edlund; Magnus Norgren; Krister Holmberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chelating surfactant; DTPA based surfactant; pH-responsive; characterization; surface tension; NMR diffusometry; conditional stability constants; interaction parameter; ion flotation;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to investigate the fundamental characteristics of a chelating surfactant in terms of solution behaviour, chelation of divalent metal ions, and interaction in mixtures with different foaming agents and divalent metal ion, as well as examining its prospects in some practical applications. Chelating surfactants are functional molecules, with both surface active and chelating properties, which are water soluble and therefore suitable for chelation in many aqueous environments. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Surface characterization methods for quality assessment of polyethylene-coated paperboard

    Författare :Javier Mauricio Brugés; Jan Lundgren; Mattias Andersson; Mikael Sjödahl; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polarization; surface characterization; Stokes polarimeter; polyethylene coating; paperboard;

    Sammanfattning : In manufacturing processes, the quality of a product often depends on its surface, and careful control of surface properties is critical to meet customer requirements. A thin layer of polyethylene (PE) is applied to paperboard to increase barrier functionality and high optical quality of the product. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Metal Particles – Hazard or Risk? Elaboration and Implementation of a Research Strategy from a Surface and Corrosion Perspective

    Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER
