  1. 1. T-cell regulation of immune responses to the Plasmodium falciparum antigen Pf155/RESA

    Författare :Lalitha Kabilan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antigens; surface; immunology T-lymphocytes; Plasmodium falciparum;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmodium falciparum is the cause of the most severe malaria inhumans. Due to the rapid resurgence of malaria in many parts of theworld extensive efforts have been made during the last few years todefine several P.falciparum antigens for inclusion in a vaccine. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Surface Properties of Antibodies and their Complexes with Antigens Studied by LLPC

    Författare :Christer Wingren; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ligand-binding.; surface properties; isomerism; conformational changes; antibody; specificity; two-phase partitioning; antigen-binding sites; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to gain further insight into the relationship between the exposed surfaces and the functional properties of antibodies and their complexes with antigens in solution. To study this relationship, a new technique, liquid-liquid partition chromatography (LLPC) in aqueous two-phase systems, was developed further with respect to sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility. 3. 3. Structural studies of the surface adhesin SspB from Streptococcus gordonii

    Författare :Nina Forsgren; Karina Persson; Inger Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Streptococcus gordonii; X-ray crystallography; surface adhesin; dental plaque; structural biology; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi; ODONTOLOGY; ODONTOLOGI; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Surface proteins on microorganisms that build up the oral biofilm are key players in the formation of the biofilm. Antigen I/II proteins are surface adhesins found on virtually all oral streptococci and share a conserved multi-domain architecture. These adhesins bind surface components on other bacteria and on host cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Elucidating Genetic and Biochemical Aspects of the P1 and Sda Carbohydrate Histo-Blood Group Antigens

    Författare :Linn Stenfelt; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood Group; P1 antigen; Sda antigen; A4GALT; B3GALNT2; glycosyltransferase; red blood cell; transfusion medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Human histo-blood groups are inherited polymorphic variants that occur in the molecular structures on the humanred blood cell (RBC) surface. Introducing foreign RBCs into a recipient lacking an antigen may activate the humoraldefence leading to a hemolytic transfusion reaction. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Dendritic cell interactions with Gram negative bacteria

    Författare :Mattias Svensson; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; virology; Major histocompatibility complex molecules; Dendritic cells; Gram negative bacteria; Antigen processing; Antigen presentation; bacteriology; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The interaction between murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative bacteria Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli have been characterised. These studies showed that DC phagocytosed and processed S. typhimurium and E. LÄS MER
