  1. 16. Surface Complexation Studies in An (Th, U(IV), Pu(VI)) Systems

    Författare :Mattias Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface complexation; sorption; adsorption; uranium; surface charge; FITEQL; plutonium;

    Sammanfattning : Two-phase systems containing an electrolyte solution and a suspended solid were studied. The common denominator for the three systems examined in this work is that they contain actinides (elements of atomic numbers between 89 and 103) in either the solid phase or as a sorbate. Experiments were done on simple oxides. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Theoretical and experimental studies of surface and interfacial phenomena involving steel surfaces

    Författare :Weimin Cao; Seshadri Seetharaman; Oleg Ostrovski; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sulfur; Oxygen; Adsorption; Iron surface; ab initio calculations; Adsorption energy; Work function; Difference charge density; Magnetic properties; Thermodynamic stability; Average velocity; Monte Carlo simulation; X-ray sessile drop method; Mass transfer; Interfacial velocity; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The present work was initiated to investigate the surface- and interfacial phenomena for iron and slag/iron systems. The aim was to understand the mechanism of the effect of surface active elements on surface and interfacial properties. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Adsorption of Molecules on Metal Surfaces Studied by High Resolution Core Level Photoemission

    Författare :Andreas Beutler; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Core level photoemission; molecules; adsorption; single crystal surfaces; metals; metal films; vibrations of adsorbed molecules; surface ordering; carbon monoxide; photoelectron spectroscopy; surface diffusion; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Beutler;

    Sammanfattning : Various aspects of the adsorption of molecules on metal surfaces have been studied making use of different properties of high resolution core level photoemission. A thorough investigation has been performed of the ordering and the site occupancy of CO overlayers on Rh(111). CO has been shown to adsorb in on-top and three-fold-hollow sites. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Fouling and cleaning of solid surfaces. The influence of surface characteristics and operating conditions

    Författare :Camilla Karlsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; ellipsometry; sodium hydroxide; anionic surfactant; betalactoglobulin; protein; stainless steel; hydrophilic surface; hydrophobic surface; cleaning; adsorption; fouling; Livsmedelsteknik; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The severe fouling common in food processing puts high demands on equipment cleaning. Adsorption of the protein betalactoglobulin to solid surfaces and its subsequent removal were followed using in situ ellipsometry. Most experiments were done in a stirred cuvette. Additionally, a flow cell was designed, which was employed in some work. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Coordination Chemistry of Monocarboxylate and Aminocarboxylate Complexes at the Water/Goethite Interface

    Författare :Katarina Norén; Per Persson; Staffan Sjöberg; Stephan J. Hug; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acetate; benzoate; adsorption; surface complex; ternary surface complexes; ATR-FTIR spectroscopy; EXAFS spectroscopy.; cyclohexanecarboxylate; sarcosine; MIDA; EDDA; EDTA; gallium III ; goethite; mineral surface; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of five papers with focus on adsorption processes of various monocarboxylates and aminocarboxylates at the water/goethite interface. Interaction of organic acids at the water/mineral interfaces are of importance in biogeochemical processes, since such processes have potential to alter mobility and bioavailability of the acids and metal ions.
