  3. 3. Airway antioxidant responses to oxidative air pollution and vitamin supplementation

    Författare :Annelie Behndig; Anders Blomberg; Ian S Mudway; Ragnberth Helleday; Isabelle Romieu; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; air pollution; ozone; diesel exhaust; airway inflammation; antioxidant; vitamin C; dehydroascorbate; vitamin supplementation; Medicin; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Air pollutants, such as ozone (O3) and diesel exhaust particles, elicit oxidative stress in the lung. Antioxidants within the respiratory tract lining fluid (RTLF) protect the underlying tissue from oxidative injury. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effect of Dietary Antioxidants on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Metabolic Factors : Studies in Subjects with Overweight and with Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Elisabet Rytter; Samar Basu; Bengt Vessby; Anders Sjödin; Helmut Sies; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Antioxidants; supplementation; fruit and vegetables; oxidative stress; isoprostanes; lipid peroxidation; oxidative damage to DNA; glycaemic control; inflammation; overweight; type 2 diabetes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Nutrition; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : Observational studies have indicated that fruit and vegetables, and dietary antioxidants may play an important role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases, potentially by affecting pathogenic mechanisms such as oxidative stress and inflammation. Clinical trials investigating the effects of supplementation with single or a few antioxidants in high doses have, however, shown inconsistent results and thus have not been able to support the observational findings. 5. 5. Nutrition and Oxidative Parameters in Pregnancy, Size at Birth and Metabolic Status of the Offspring at 4.5 Years : The MINIMat Trial in Rural Bangladesh

    Författare :Emma Lindström; Eva-Charlotte Ekström; Lars-Åke Persson; Samar Basu; Tessa Roseboom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pregnancy; micronutrient deficiency; anemia; birth size; food supplementation; micronutrient supplementation; metabolic status; childhood; International Health; Internationell hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Undernutrition and oxidative stress in fetal life and infancy may lead to adverse health outcomes in the offspring. We studied nutrition and oxidative parameters in pregnancy and their associations with birth anthropometry and metabolic status in the children. LÄS MER
