1. Antenna Integrated Superconducting Mixers
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the prospects of some different superconducting mixers integrated with planar antennas for the millimeter and submillimeter regime. Two kinds of Superconductor/Insulator/Superconductor (SIS) tunnel junctions for use in mixers have been fabricated; Nb/PbBi edge junctions and Nb trilayer junctions. LÄS MER
2. Parametrically pumped superconducting circuits
Sammanfattning : In this licentiate thesis, I present the design, fabrication, and characterization of superconducting parametric resonators, for use in quantum information processing. These devices are quarter-wavelength coplanar waveguide resonators (~5 GHz), terminated at one end by a non-linear inductance provided by a SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device). 3. Engineering superconducting qubits : towards a quantum machine
Sammanfattning : A quantum computer is an information processing machine, much like an ordinary classical computer, but its function is based on quantum mechanical principles. To be able to construct such a machine would be a fantastic accomplishment---to have total control over a quantum system is a dream for both physicists and science-fiction enthusiasts. LÄS MER
4. Quantum acoustics with superconducting circuits
Sammanfattning : The past 20 years has seen rapid developments in circuit quantum electrodynamics, where superconducting qubits and resonators are used to control and study quantum light-matter interaction at a fundamental level. The development of this field is strongly influenced by quantum information science and the prospect of realizing quantum computation, but also opens up opportunities for combinations of different physical systems and research areas. 5. Transport in mesoscopic superconducting devices
Sammanfattning : A field of growing interest within the last few decades is the study of superconductivity in mesoscopic-scale heterostructures. Mesoscopic refers to sizes between the atomic and macroscopic scales. LÄS MER
