1. Understanding the Role of Seed Particle Material on III-As Nanowire Growth
Sammanfattning : III-V semiconductor nanowires have attracted extensive research interests over the past few decades due to their unique geometry and great potential for promoting new functionalities in future electronics, light-emitting diodes and solar cells. However, in order to push this technology beyond the laboratory level, it is essential to combine it with the current Si-based semiconductor industry for affordable production. LÄS MER
2. Mononuclear Ruthenium Complexes that Catalyze Water to Dioxgen Oxidation
Sammanfattning : The theme of this thesis is the development of mononuclear Ru-based complexes that are capable of catalyzing the water oxidation (or O2-evolving) reaction, e.g. 2 H2O → O2 + 4 H+ + 4 e−. Several families of mononuclear Ru water oxidation catalysts were designed and prepared. LÄS MER
3. Ab initio study of transition metal carbides and actinide compounds
Sammanfattning : Two classes of materials are investigated using ab intio methods based on density functional theory. The structural properties, electronic structure and thermodynamic properties of binary and ternary transition metal carbides are discussed in details. In addition, two actinide compounds will be presented. LÄS MER
4. Supramolecular chemistry based on redox-active components and cucurbit[n]urils
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the host-guest chemistry between Cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) and CB[8] and a series of guests including bispyridinium cations, phenols and napthalenes. These guests are bound to ruthenium polypyridine complexes or ruthenium based water oxidation catalysts (WOCs). LÄS MER
5. The character of magnetic records of deformed soft sediments with emphasis on liquefaction structures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the characteristics of magnetic records in deformed soft sediments during postglacial time in Sweden are studied. Magnetic records refer in this study to magnetic remanence (NRM and ChRM) and susceptibility, including its anisotropy (AMS). LÄS MER
