  1. 1. Epac2 signaling at the β-cell plasma membrane

    Författare :Ida Alenkvist; Anders Tengholm; Olga Göransson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-cell; insulin secretion; cAMP; Ca2 ; Epac; Rap; exocytosis; sulfonylurea; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Secretion of appropriate amounts of insulin from pancreatic β-cells is crucial for glucose homeostasis. The β-cells release insulin in response to glucose and other nutrients, hormones and neurotransmitters, which trigger intracellular signaling cascades, that result in exocytotic fusion of insulin-containing vesicles with the plasma membrane. 2. 2. Gene expression in human adipose tissue. Studies of leptin and genes selected by expression profiling

    Författare :Britt G. Gabrielsson; Britt Gabrielsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; subcutaneous; omental; DNA microarray; sulfonylurea receptor; fibroblast; growth factors; complement system; fibroblast;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity, and in particular the amount of visceral adipose tissue, is correlated to development of type 2diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The aim of this thesis was to study genes expressed in humanadipose tissue that could be involved in regional adipose tissue homeostasis and/or obesity-associateddisease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Protein phosphorylation cascades regulating islet beta-cell insulin exocytosis through glucose sensing and drug signaling : With special focus on serine/threonine protein phosphates and hypoglycemic sulfonylureas

    Författare :Mikael Lehtihet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Diabetes; Islet; Insulin; Exocytosis; Protein phosphatase; Protein kinase; CPT-1; Sulfonylurea; Glutamate; Polyphosphoinositide;

    Sammanfattning : In human type 2 diabetes, loss of glucose-sensitive insulin secretion from the pancreatic -cell is an early pathogenetic event. Initially, this may be compensated for by stimulating insulin secretion by sulfonylurea drugs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of imidazoline compounds on intracellular CA2+ and apoptosis

    Författare :Ioulia Appelskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; imidazolines; imidazoline site; sulfonylurea; glucose; interleukin-1beta; insulin secretion; glucagon; somatostatin; pancreatic islets; pancreatic P-cells; HIT-T15 cells; apoptosis; cytoplasmic free Ca2 concentration;

    Sammanfattning : Cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) plays a pivotal role in the regulation of insulin release from the pancreatic beta-cell. [Ca2+]i is also important in the control of apoptosis. LÄS MER
