16. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production: Studies on Sugarcane Bagasse, Paja Brava, Wheat Straw, Quinoa Stalks and Curupaú
Sammanfattning : Lignocellulosic biomass refers to plant material that is composed mainly of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. These materials are today of large interest to researchers in the field of biofuel and bioenergy. LÄS MER
17. Chemical studies of 0-antigens from Shigella
Sammanfattning : The structure of 13 types of Shigella flexneri O-antigens has been determined, using a N-deacetylation-deamination reaction sequence. The correlation between chemical structures and immunological classification of Shigella flexneri is discussed. LÄS MER
18. Structural and biochemical insights into biosynthesis and degradation of N-glycans
Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are a primary energy source for all living organisms, but importantly, they also participate in a number of life-sustaining biological processes, e.g. cell signaling and cell-wall synthesis. The first part of the thesis examines glycosyltransferases that play a crucial role in the biosynthesis of N-glycans. LÄS MER
19. Improving Stress Tolerance in Industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains for Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass
Sammanfattning : The present work was aimed at developing industrial S. cerevisiae strains with improved tolerance to two types of stressors encountered during the fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass that affect ethanol yield and productivity, namely hydrolysate-derived inhibitors and high temperature, and at understanding the response of yeast and mechanisms of adaptation to such stressors. 20. Ethanol from lignocellulose : Management of by-products of hydrolysis
Sammanfattning : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosic materials, such as residues from agriculture and forestry. The polysaccharides of lignocellulose are converted to sugars by hydrolysis and the sugars can then be fermented to ethanol using microorganisms. However, during hydrolysis a wide range of by-products are also generated. LÄS MER
