  1. 1. Computational analysis of oligosaccharide conformations – methodological development, applied studies, and design of glycomimetics

    Författare :Francesco Strino; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histo-blood group antigens; Burkholderia cepacia; genetic algorithms; norovirus; selenoglycosides; sugar conformations; thioglycosides; saccharide conformations;

    Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are the most abundant class of biomolecules. Besides their roles as structural elements and energy storage, they are involved in signaling and recognition processes. Their functions and activities depend on their preferred conformations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Structural studies of sugar binding proteins

    Författare :Sanjeewani Sooriyaarachchi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Binding proteins, which are themselves non-enzymatic, play an important role in enzymatic reactions as well as non-enzymatic processes by providing a binding platform for the specific recognition of particular molecules. For example, periplasmic binding proteins play a vital role in nutrient uptake in Gram-negative bacteria. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Conformationally Constrained Oligonucleotides for RNA Targeting

    Författare :Qing Li; Jyoti Chattopadhyaya; Li-He Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; conformationally constrained nucleoside; antisense oligonucleotide; RNA affinity; nuclease stability; RNase H; RNA degradation; Chemistry with specialization in Bioorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot bioorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : A short oligonucleotide sequence as in a single-stranded antisense oligo nucleotides (AON) or in double-stranded small interfering RNAs (siRNA) can modulate the gene expression by targeting against the cellular mRNA, which can be potentially exploited for therapeutic purposes in the treatment of different diseases. In order to improve the efficacy of oligonucleotide-based drugs, the problem of target affinity, nuclease stability and delivery needs to be addressed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of N-glycosylation in human IgE

    Författare :Johanna Da Luz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The medical interest of allergy in industrialised societies has generated a much greater knowledge about the pathophysiology of IgE-mediated responses than about its normal physiological role. Because of the central role of IgE in allergic inflammation, neutralisation of effector functions and inhibition of IgE-synthesis are attractive means of therapy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of Macromolecular Crowding on Protein Folding : - in-vitro equilibrium and kinetic studies on selected model systems

    Författare :Alexander Christiansen; Pernilla Wittung-Stafshede; Thomas Kiefhaber; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein Folding; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume; spectroscopy; stopped-flow; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Protein folding is the process during which an extended and unstructured polypeptide converts to its compact folded structure that is most often the functional state. The process has been characterized extensively in dilute buffer in-vitro during the last decades but the actual biological place for this process is the inside of living cells. LÄS MER
