1. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 2. The role of stroma-derived substances in breast cancer progression and their function as tumour markers
Sammanfattning : Background: In 2020, more than 2,260,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. Most patients are cured with surgery and adjuvant treatment, but despite that, approximately 700,000 women die of the disease every year. The historical focus on breast cancer progression has been on the malignant epithelial cell. LÄS MER
3. Development of Techniques and Methods for the Quantitative Analysis of Endogenous Substances by Microcolumn Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is a powerful technique for the analysis of endogenous compounds. The introduction of electrospray ionization (ESI) as an interface between LC and MS has contributed strongly to a trend towards miniaturization of LC, due to the possibility to perform ESI at low flow rates. 5. Synthesis Towards Biologically Active Natural Products
Sammanfattning : In 2005 two research groups independently reported the isolation of a series of structurally intriguing C-19 terpenolides from the plants Thapsia transtagana and Thapsia garganica. The compounds were shown to be potent inhibitors of the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPases. LÄS MER
