1. Stochastic model updating and model selection with application to structural dynamics
Sammanfattning : Uncertainty induced by our incomplete state of knowledge about engineering systems and their surrounding environment give rise to challenging problems in the process of building predictive models for the system behavior. One such challenge is the model selection problem, which arises due to the existence of invariably multiple candidate models with different mathematical forms to represent the system behavior, and so there is a need to assess their plausibility based on experimental data. 2. Krylov Subspace Methods for Linear Systems, Eigenvalues and Model Order Reduction
Sammanfattning : New variants of Krylov subspace methods for numerical solution of linear systems, eigenvalue, and model order reduction problems are described. A new method to solve linear systems of equations with several right-hand sides is described. LÄS MER
3. Hidden Markov models - Traffic modeling and subspace methods
Sammanfattning : The main motivation for this thesis, however not the only one, is the search for models for traffic in telecommunication networks. Traffic characterization and modeling are of great importance in the analysis and dimensioning of communication systems. During the last decades we have experienced an explosive growth of our telecommunication networks. LÄS MER
4. Machine Learning Methods Using Class-specific Subspace Kernel Representations for Large-Scale Applications
Sammanfattning : Kernel techniques became popular due to and along with the rising success of Support Vector Machines (SVM). During the last two decades, the kernel idea itself has been extracted from SVM and is now widely studied as an independent subject. LÄS MER
5. Model-based and matched-filterbank signal analysis
Sammanfattning : The dissertation deals with model-based and matched-filterbank signal analysis. The matched-filterbank (MAFI) spectral estimation approach is introduced, and it is shown that both the amplitude spectrum Capon (ASC) and the amplitude and phase estimation (APES) spectral estimators can be expressed as MAFI spectral estimators.
