    Författare :Johanna Wright; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; source modulation method; point kinetics; core loading; reactivity measurement; Feynman-alpha formulae; Accelerator Driven Systems ADS ; subcritical cores;

    Sammanfattning : Subcriticality measurements during core loading and in future accelerator driven systems have a clear safety relevance. In this thesis two subcriticality methods are treated: the Feynman-alpha and the source modulation method. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; transmutation; accelerator-driven systems; Energy Amplifier; subcritical reactors; nuclear waste; Monte Carlo simulation; burnup; actinides; fission products; benchmark; nuclear data; neutron cross sections; sensitivity analysis; neutron source; spallation target; n_TOF experiment; neutron time-of-flight; cross section measurement; FLUKA; EA-MC; MCNP; MCNP-X; EADF; TRADE; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times. 3. 3. Power Reactor Noise Studies and Applications

    Författare :Vasiliy Arzhanov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; power spectra; control rod vibrations; Green s function; nesting hypothesis; adjoint function; fluctuating boundary; noise diagnostics; Accelerator Driven System; localisation algorithm; point reactor and adiabatic approximation;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the neutron noise arising in power reactor systems. Generally, it can be divided into two major parts: first, neutron noise diagnostics, or more specifically, novel methods and algorithms to monitor nuclear industrial reactors; and second, contributions to neutron noise theory as applied to power reactor systems. 4. 4. Accelerator-driven systems : safety and kinetics

    Författare :Marcus Eriksson; Janne Wallenius; Hamid Aït Abderrrahim; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 5. 5. Coil Design and Related Studies for the Fusion-Fission Reactor Concept SFLM Hybrid

    Författare :Anders Hagnestål; Olov Ågren; Vladimir Moiseenko; Ladislav Bardos; Jan Scheffel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Fission; Hybrid reactor; Actinides; Mirror Machine; Quadrupolar mirror; Coils; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : A fusion-fission (hybrid) reactor is a combination of a fusion device and a subcritical fission reactor, where the fusion device acts as a neutron source and the power is mainly produced in the fission core. Hybrid reactors may be suitable for transmutation of transuranic isotopes in the spent nuclear fuel, due to the safety margin on criticality imposed by the subcritical fission core. LÄS MER
