21. Tunnels and Grooves : Structure-Function Studies in Two Disparate Enzymes
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes structural and binding studies in enzymes from two different organisms: ribonucleotide reductase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (RNR) and lipase A from Candida antarctica (CalA).RNR is viable as a target for new drugs against the causative agent of tuberculosis. 22. Civil structural health monitoring : strategies, methods and applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a Civil Structural Health Monitoring (CSHM) method for assessment of civil structures by using a combination of advanced monitoring equipment with probabilistic based assessment. The numbers of civil structures such as bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, dams, etc. LÄS MER
23. Coping with environmental change : Lessons from isotope studies in a sentinel species
Sammanfattning : Adaptive evolution and phenotypic plasticity are two key mechanisms by which natural populations avoid extinction in the face of environmental change. Evolutionary young systems, such as the Baltic Sea with low species diversity and steep environmental gradients, are good models for studying how wild populations cope with environmental changes, such as climate-induced alterations in food supply and exposure to environmental contaminants. 24. Technological Change in an International Industrial System
Sammanfattning : Industrial systems resist change, more often, because heavy production facilities and industrial constructions are expensive and have long economic lives, but also because people tend to defend ingrained conceptions of how things are and how activities ought to be performed. Starting out from the question: “How does technological change come about in an international, industrial system?” the thesis investigates the interplay between technological, social, and economic factors. 25. Modelling the Structural Dynamics of Business Networks : Two Agent-based Models of Supply Networks
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at describing and analysing the structural changes of business networks that emerge as a result of change triggers. Despite previous studies, our understanding of the evolution of the network structure and its influencing factors is still limited. LÄS MER
