16. Tumor-stroma interactions in hepatocellular carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly deadly primary liver cancer with a rising global incidence and limited therapeutic options, is characterized by a vicious cross-talk between the tumor and its surrounding hepatic stroma. The stromal environment, consisting of hepatic stellate cells (HSC), endothelial cells, resident and infiltrating macrophages and other immune cells, platelets and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, actively contributes to creating an ideal niche for tumor proliferation and invasiveness. 17. The reactive stroma in pancreatic diseases
Sammanfattning : Stroma, or activated connective tissue, is a key component in both pancreatitis and pancreatic tumors. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammation of the pancreas which ranges from mild and local to systemic with severe complications and high mortality. LÄS MER
18. Studies of Stroma Formation and Regulation in Human Pathological Conditions and in Experimental in vivo Models
Sammanfattning : Fibrosis is a sequel of chronic inflammation and is defined as an excessive deposition of collagen that ultimately leads to organ dysfunction. To date there are no effective treatments for fibrosis. The main cell type involved in collagen deposition and organization is the myofibroblast. LÄS MER
19. MESENCHYMAL STEM- AND STROMAL CELLS IN BONE MARROW AND OSTEOSARCOMA
Sammanfattning : Primary mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) play a central role in bone marrow (BM) and during haematopoiesis. Yet, the exact phenotype and spatial distribution of primary MSC in the human BM are unknown. Their cultured progeny are promising candidates for clinical applications. LÄS MER
20. The role of stroma-derived substances in breast cancer progression and their function as tumour markers
Sammanfattning : Background: In 2020, more than 2,260,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. Most patients are cured with surgery and adjuvant treatment, but despite that, approximately 700,000 women die of the disease every year. The historical focus on breast cancer progression has been on the malignant epithelial cell. LÄS MER
