    Sammanfattning : Experiences early in life or during adolescence modulate neuronal networks in the immature brain and consequently lay the foundation for future susceptibility or resilience towards psychiatric disorders. The objective in this thesis is to understand, in part, how the surrounding environment shapes the brain of a young individual. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Background Animal models can be used to mimic human conditions of psychopathology, and also as pre-clinical models to evaluate candidate drugs. With hormonal treatment it is possible to produce behavior in the rat which corresponds to the mental symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Alcohol Use and Stress in University Freshmen - A Comparative Intervention Study of Two Universities

    Författare :Claes Andersson; Kliniskt Centrum för Hälsofrämjande Vård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; university dropout; stress measurement; comparative design; intervention; stress; university freshmen students; alcohol;

    Sammanfattning : Starting university is associated with major academic, personal and social opportunities. For many people, university entrance is also associated with increased stress and alcohol consumption. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Childhood bereavement, stress resilience, and cancer risk : an integrated register-based approach

    Författare :Beatrice Kennedy; Katja Fall; Fang Fang; Unnur Valdimarsdottír; Scott Montgomery; Meena Kumari; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; bereavement; cancer; drug use; epidemiology; health behaviour; psychological resilience; smoking; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that psychosocial stress and susceptibility to stressful exposures – stress resilience – influence the risk of various health outcomes, but the potential link with cancer occurrence is unclear. The aims of this thesis were to test if loss of a close relative, a marker of severe psychological stress, and stress resilience measured during late adolescence are associated with cancer risk later in life, as well as to explore potential underlying mechanisms. 5. 5. Maternal Separation in Rats : An Experimental Model for Long-Term Effects of Early Life Experiences on Neurochemistry, Voluntary Ethanol Intake and Exploration and Risk Assessment Behavior

    Författare :Erika Roman; Ingrid Nylander; J. Dee Higley; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The period of early life is important for the development of individual brain function and behavior. Human studies have shown altered vulnerability to develop psychopathology and/or excessive drug intake, possibly leading to dependence, as a consequence of early life experiences. LÄS MER
