  1. 6. Effects of Watershed Dynamics on Water Reservoir Operation Planning : Considering the Dynamic Effects of Streamflow in Hydropower Operation

    Författare :Nicholas Zmijewski; Anders Wörman; Andrea Bottacin-Busolin; Francesca Pianosi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reservoir operation; dispersion processes; wave diffusion; multi-objective operation; water resource management; discharge variability; power spectrum analysis; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Water reservoirs are used to regulate river discharge for a variety of reasons, such as flood mitigation, water availability for irrigation, municipal consumption and power production purposes. Recent efforts to increase the amount of renewable power production have seen an increase in intermittent climate-variable power production due to wind and solar power production. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change

    Författare :Anna Åkesson; Anders Wörman; Alberto Viglione; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streamflow routing; peakflow predictions; parameterization; hydrological response; stage-dependency; flooded cross-sections; stream networks; backwater effects; temporal change; land use change; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 4. 9. Hydrological modeling as a tool for sustainable water resources management: a case study of the Awash River Basin

    Författare :Selome M. Tessema; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrological characteristics; Distributed hydrological modeling; Rainfall-runoff correlation; Streamflow prediction; Sustainable water management; Awash River Basin; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : The growing pressure on the world‘s fresh water resources is enforced by population growth that leads to conflicts between demands for different purposes. A main concern on water use is the conflict between the environment and other purposes like hydropower, irrigation for agriculture and domestic and industry water supply, where total flows are diverted without releasing water for ecological conservation. 5. 10. Do forests have an impact on water availability? : Assessing the effects of heterogeneous land use on streamflow in two monsoonal river basins

    Författare :Julie Wilk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to assess the effects of land use changes on streamflow in two river basins, the upper Bhavani in south India and the upper Nam Pang in northeast Thailand. In the Nam Pang basin, the forest cover has decreased from 80% to 27% in the last 30 years. Despite this, almost no changes in streamflow patterns or amountswere found. LÄS MER
