  1. 1. Interaction of Hurricanes and Natural Coastal Features: Implications for Storm Damage Reduction

    Författare :Ty Wamsley; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Louisiana; Barrier island; Vegetation; Flooding; Waves; Storm surge; Hurricanes; Mathematical modeling; Storm damage reduction;

    Sammanfattning : It is generally acknowledged that wetlands and barrier islands can reduce surge and waves. However, while a general qualitative understanding of these interactions is available in the scientific literature, quantification of these interactions is lacking and has previously been based on limited data of relatively poor quality. 2. 2. Windstorms in Sweden - variations and impacts

    Författare :Carin Nilsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate impact; geostrophic wind; Gudrun; Anatol; wind throw; forest damage; storm damage; Sweden; wind climate; windstorm;

    Sammanfattning : Windstorms have caused severe damage on several occasions in Sweden during the last century. A general concern about future projections of climate extremes has raised questions on the variations and impacts of windstorms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Impacts of climate change on forest management and implications for Swedish forestry : an analysis based on growth and yield models

    Författare :Narayanan Subramanian; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : While climate change is expected to increase the growth rates of most tree species in Sweden in the future, during this period, there are also increased risks of tree damage due to various risk factors associated with climate change. Therefore, it is necessary to develop adaptive management measures in order to exploit the benefits of climate change and minimize the damage resulting from these risk factors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Relationships between Atmospheric Circulation and Wind Erosion in Southern Sweden and Australia

    Författare :Marie Ekström; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Physical geography; geomorphology; Geologi; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geology; sea level pressure; atmospheric circulation; erosivity; wind erosion; wind climatology; Scania; Australia;

    Sammanfattning : Wind erosion is a serious threat to soil resources as it causes depletion of the fine fractions that may result in a less fertile soil. Wind erosion encompasses several processes of which many are related to climate variables. To date, there is little work performed on how wind erosion relates to climate and climate change. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Extreme Storms in the North Atlantic and Europe

    Författare :John Hanley; Rodrigo Caballero; Joaquim Pinto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : A study of the most extreme cyclones affecting the North Atlantic and Europe is presented with particular focus on extreme windstorms over the densely populated area of Western Europe, whose associated high surface wind speeds are capable of causing extensive structural damage and occasionally a loss of life.A novel cyclone identification and tracking algorithm is presented which explicitly recognises ‘multi-centre cyclones’ (MCCs), defined as cyclonic systems which contain two or three sea-level pressure minima.
