  1. 1. Energy Storage Systems in Electrical Distribution Grids : Analysis and implementations of use cases for service stacking

    Författare :Johannes Hjalmarsson; Cecilia Boström; Karin Thomas; Louise Ödlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ancillary services; congestion management; distribution grids; energy storage systems; scheduling optimization; service stacking.;

    Sammanfattning : This Ph.D. thesis investigates the possibility of using energy storage systems for multiple services by implementing service stacking, with special emphasis on congestion management in distribution grids. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Smart control of PV and exhaust air heat pump systems in single-family buildings

    Författare :Emmanouil Psimopoulos; Joakim Widén; Chris Bales; Tomas Persson; Jarek Kurnitski; Uppsala University; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; photovoltaics; heat pump; forecast services; thermal storage; electrical storage; control algorithms; TESHP Test av solvärmepumpsystem; TESHP Test av solvärmepumpsystem;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, decentralized household photovoltaic (PV) systems have become more affordable and there is a tendency to decrease subsidies for the PV excess electricity fed into the grid. Therefore, there is growing interest in methods to increase the self-consumption (SC), which is the part of the electricity produced by PV and directly consumed on buildings. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Accelerating Distributed Storage in Heterogeneous Settings

    Författare :Waleed Reda; Dejan Kostic; Peter Van Roy; Marco Chiesa; Adam Morrison; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distributed storage; File systems; Hardware offload; Persistent memory; Distribuerad lagring; Dilsystem; Maskinvaruavlastning; Beständigt minne; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterogeneity in cloud environments is a fact of life—from workload skews and network path changes, to the diversity of server hardware components, these are all factors that impact the performance of distributed storage. In this dissertation, we identify that heterogeneity can in fact be one of the primary causes of service degradation for storage systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effective conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes

    Författare :William Sidemo Holm; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; ecosystem services; agri-environmental measures; cost-effectiveness; conservation;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural land use is a major driver of biodiversity losses and changes in ecosystem services. Thus, for the sake of both humans and wild organism per se, effective strategies that enable both agricultural production and conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services are urgently needed. 5. 5. Ecosystem services of wetlands and wetlandscapes under hydro-climatic change : Impacts of water flow and inundation patterns

    Författare :Imenne Åhlén; Jerker Jarsjö; Peter Hambäck; Georgia Destouni; Andrew Frampton; Heather E. Golden; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Ecohydrology; Wetlands; Wetlandscapes; Ecosystem services; Spatial Ecology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Wetlands provide ecosystem services valuable for human society and are therefore often considered as nature based solution to different environmental problems. However, with centuries of wetland degradation due to anthropogenic pressures, such as agricultural expansion and forest industry, as well as pressures from climate change, there are large challenges for sustainable wetland management.
