16. Strategies for Monitoring of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Aquatic Environment
Sammanfattning : The protein biomarker vitellogenin in fish is discussed alongside alterative strategies for monitoring of endocrine disrupting chemicals. The first objective was to find a cheap, robust and generic method for the quantification of vitellogenin. LÄS MER
17. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE
Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. 18. The association between steroid hormones and cognitive performance in adulthood
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether endogenous estrogen and testosterone were associated with cognitive performance in adulthood and whether hand preference affected the pattern of sex differences in cognitive performance. The analyses in Studies I-IV were based on data from the Betula project in Umeå, Sweden; a population-based longitudinal study on aging and memory. LÄS MER

20. The Effect of Steroid Hormones in the Female Brain During Different Reproductive States
Sammanfattning : Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from depression and anxiety disorders and have an increased risk of onset during periods associated with hormonal changes, such as the postpartum period and the menopausal transition. Furthermore, some women seem more sensitive to normal hormone fluctuations across the menstrual cycle, since approximately 3-5% suffers from premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). LÄS MER
