1. Technology, Language and Thought : Extensions of Meaning in the English Lexicon
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the relationship between technological innovation and the development of language and thought is analysed. For this purpose, three different fields of technology are investigated: 1) the steam engine, 2) electricity, and 3) motor vehicles, roads and ways. LÄS MER
2. Indirect gasification production of biomethane for use in heavy-duty state-of-the-art gas engines
Sammanfattning : The climate targets set for the European transport sector have stimulated intensiveresearch by groups in academia, the energy industry, and vehicle manufacturing in theGothenburg region into biomethane production via indirect gasification of lignocellulosebiomass and the development of advanced gas engine technologies. This work presents the results of a comprehensive study of biomethane production andutilization in heavy duty engines. 3. Fossil Capital : The Rise of Steam-Power in the British Cotton Industry, c. 1825-1848, and the Roots of Global Warming
Sammanfattning : The more we know about the catastrophic implications of climate change, the more fossil fuels are burnt in the world. How did we get caught up in this mess? This thesis returns to a crucial moment in the emergence of the fossil economy: the rise of steam-power. LÄS MER
4. Evaporative Cycles - in Theori and in Practise
Sammanfattning : The thesis is based on applied research, rather closed to industrial development. The developed simulation model, for pre-design of evaporative gas turbine cycles, has been validated in a 600 kW pilot plant and in rebuilt turbo-charged diesel engines. LÄS MER
5. Waste Heat Recovery from Combustion Engines based on the Rankine Cycle
Sammanfattning : Most of the energy in the fuel burned in modern automotive internal combustion engines is lost as wasteheat without contributing to the vehicle’s propulsion. In principle some of this lost energy could becaptured and used to increase the vehicle’s fuel efficiency by fitting a waste heat recovery system to theengine. LÄS MER
