16. Conservation Laws, Numerical Schemes and Control Strategies for Sedimentation and Wastewater Treatment
Sammanfattning : A consistent theme throughout this thesis is quasilinear partial differential equations (PDEs) appearing in one-dimensional models of sedimentation for solid-liquid separation of suspensions. We mainly focus on continuous sedimentation in so-called clarifier-thickeners (CTs), which are found in mineral processing and wastewater treatment. LÄS MER
17. Understanding overlooked molecular interactions in the cellulose/NaOH(aq) system
Sammanfattning : The cold NaOH(aq) system is a promising process for the production of textile fibres. Although the process has been studied for almost a century, there remain unsolved research issues, especially regarding the dissolution mechanism. LÄS MER
18. Elastohydrodynamically lubricated finite line contacts operating under transient conditions
Sammanfattning : The effect of greenhouse gas emissions contributing to the global warming is today becoming an increasingly important problem worldwide and has led to increased efforts being made on improving tribological performance of interacting surfaces in mechanical systems. Due to increasingly stringent CO2regulations, a reduced fuel consumption has become a key area of interest for the automotive industry where low cost, low emission solutions are continuously developed and where low friction alternatives to machine elements currently in use are evaluated. 19. Investigation and modelling of friction stir welded copper canisters
Sammanfattning : This work has been focused on characterisation of FSW joints, and modelling of the process, both analytically and numerically. The Swedish model for final deposit of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. LÄS MER
20. Design and analysis of a novel low loss homopolar electrodynamic bearing
Sammanfattning : A novel homopolar electrodynamic bearing, together with a suitable permanent magnet drive, have been developed for high-speed applications where low losses and high reliability are essential and exclude the use of ball bearings, and yet where active magnetic bearings offer a too complex system solution. Considered applications are small turbomolecular vacuum pumps, and maintenance free flywheels for energy storage in remote telecom and satellite systems. LÄS MER
