1. Transverse cracking in cross-ply composites during static and fatigue loading at different temperatures
Sammanfattning : Polymer composite laminates are preferred in many load bearing applications for its tailorable mechanical properties while offering light-weight solution, corrosive resistance etc. Hence, polymer composites are attractive material choice for aircraft manufacturers to reduce weight and emissions. 2. In-situ testing of floating thermal piles in soft sensitive clay
Sammanfattning : Thermal piles are structural piles with additional function of working as geothermal heat exchangers towards the soil volume. Heating and cooling process of soft soils is known to affect the stress state and soil structure, with potential consolidation settlements and creep as undesired consequences. LÄS MER
3. On the impact of temperature perturbations on the creep of sensitive clay
Sammanfattning : Temperature affects the soil response, but is not fully understood and quantified and thus often ignored. The temperature fluctuations resulting from energy foundations and construction activities, such as excavations and soil stabilization, however, may lead to changes in the hydromechanical response of the clay. 4. Combined thermal and mechanical loading of railway wheel treads. A numerical study of material response and cracking under braking conditions
Sammanfattning : The scope of the thesis is prediction of the material response owing to combined thermal and mechanical loading of a railway wheel tread. The long-term objective is to improve models for prediction of surface-initiated Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) under the combined effect of mechanical loading due to rolling (and sliding) contact and thermal loading due to braking and/or wheel--rail friction. 5. On the Design of Ultra-fast Electro-Mechanical Actuators
Sammanfattning : The continuously increasing demand for connecting electric grids with remote renewable energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic cells has rekindled interest in high voltage direct current (HVDC) multi-terminal networks. Although HVDC networks have numerous benefits, their adoption relies entirely on the availability of HVDC circuit breakers which, compared to traditional alternating current circuit breakers, have to operate in a time frame of milliseconds.
