2. Kurbits-ReBoot : svensk folksång i ny scenisk gestaltning
Sammanfattning : This artistic research project is an explorative study in new forms of expression of Swedish folk singing in a scenic context, exploring expressive qualities in traditional Swedish folk song from the point of view of the folk singer as a creative performer. The fundamental research question is how, in a scenic context, can space be given to what is a characteristic quality of traditional folk song, namely creative interpretation in the moment, through variation and improvisation using the song as a concept rather than a fixed work. Sammanfattning : Abstract:My dissertation is taken from an opera singer’s perspective and the aim is three-fold: · to investigate and problematize how gender and performance norms are reproduced on the opera stage· to provide tools and propose approaches to transform gender perspective and norm critique into a creative artistic practice, enabling conscious and active artistic choices in relation to gender and performance norms· to explore ways to expand the singer's artistic agency. The artistic research project draws on knowledge from both my own practice as a professional opera singer and my collaborators’ experiences from the worlds of opera, classical music and theatre. 4. Sångaren på den tomma spelplatsen - en poetik. Att gestalta Gilgamesheposet och sånger av John Dowland och Evert Taube
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral project is to explore an expanded role of the singer in an artistic field situated between poetry, theatre, music and reflection. The project consists of three parts: Firstly, three performances of songs and poetry: (a) Me, Me and None but Me!, a blank-verse monologue connecting songs of John Dowland, (b) Gilgamesh – The Man Who Refused to Die, a musical version of the Babylonian Gilgamesh Epic, and (c) The Poet and Time, interpretations of works by the Swedish chansonier Evert Taube. 5. Slippery paths : The performance and canonization of Turkic literature and Uyghur muqam song in Islam and modernity
Sammanfattning : In the past forty years the fluid Uyghur muqam song tradition has been transformed into a cultural canon used to represent the Uyghur ethnic group within China and on the world stage. Traditional muqam performers have provided the magma of songs that scholars and politicians have edited into an invented "great tradition" which supports a Uyghur claim to an important piece world cultural history.
