1. Stability of the free-surface problem arising in ice-sheet- and glacier modeling : Numerical investigation and stabilization
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two papers dealing with a stabilization method for free-surface flows. The method was initially developed to stabilize mantle-convection simulations, but is in this work extended to ice-sheet- and glacier modeling. LÄS MER
2. The material distribution method : analysis and acoustics applications
Sammanfattning : For the purpose of numerically simulating continuum mechanical structures, different types of material may be represented by the extreme values {,1}, where 0.... LÄS MER
3. Computational Techniques for Coupled Flow-Transport Problems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents numerical techniques for solving problems of incompressible flow coupled to scalar transport equations using finite element discretizations in space. The two applications considered in this thesis are multi-phase flow, modeled by level set or phase field methods, and planetary mantle convection based on the Boussinesq approximation. LÄS MER
4. Four-Body Treatment of the Hydrogen-Antihydrogen System
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a nonadiabatic (4-body) description of the hydrogen-antihydrogen system at a nonrelativistic level. The properties of the system, the rearrangement processes and the possible existence of resonance states are investigated by using a variational method for coupled arrangement channels, the Gaussian Expansion Method, and the stabilization method. 5. Mercury immobilization : a requirement for permanent disposal of mercury waste in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The Swedish Government states that mercury in the Swedish industry and private use shall be collected and waste containing more than 1% of mercury shall be conditioned for permanent storage in proposed groundwater-saturated repository in deep bedrock. The owners of mercury waste in Sweden are responsible for finding ways to the conversion of the mercury waste to insoluble forms. LÄS MER
