  1. 6. Seasonal variation and landscape regulation of dissolved organic carbon concentrations and character in Swedish boreal streams

    Författare :Anneli Ågren; Mats Jansson; Irena Creed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DOC; temporal variation; spatial variation; seasonal variation; forested catchment; wetland catchment; catchment characteristics; DOC characteristics; absorbance-ratio; bioavailability.; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal variation and landscape regulation of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations in streams have been studied in two watersheds in the boreal zone. The seasonal variation was found to be highly correlated to variations in runoff. An increase in runoff was always accompanied with an increase in DOC concentration. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Accumulation and Composition of Gully Pot Sediments under Varying Anthropogenic Activities

    Författare :Haoyu Wei; Lian Lundy; Maria Viklander; David Butler; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Catch basin; Stormwater; Sediment; Urban runoff; Xenobiotics; Gully pot maintenance; Emerging pollutant; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Gully pots (GPs) are an integral urban drainage component, contributing to conveying runoff from urban surfaces and reducing the load of solids and associated contaminants entering downstream piped systems and receiving waters. Over time, the silting-up of GPs impairs their hydraulic performance, increasing the risk of GP blockage-induced flood events and reducing solids retention performance. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Origin of Iron Isotope Signatures in Boreal Estuaries

    Författare :Sarah Conrad; Magnus Mörth; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The geochemistry of iron (Fe) during freshwater transport and estuarine mixing has been investigated. Espescially the changes in the Fe-isotope signature have been studied. The fate of Fe-isotopes during estuarine mixing has been poorly studied. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Iron in the Lena River basin, NE Russia : Insights from microscopy, spectroscopy and isotope analysis

    Författare :Catherine Hirst; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Per Andersson; Mats Erik Åström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron; reactivity; isotopes; permafrost; river; Arctic; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : Iron is an important mediator of biotic and abiotic processes on the Earth’s surface, being an electron acceptor in organic matter degradation, a surface for organic matter and trace element adsorption, and a required element for enzymatic processes during primary production. Yet, the role of iron as a mediator of carbon and trace element cycling in high latitude, permafrost-dominated regions remains poorly investigated. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Effects of wood ash on freshwater organisms and aquatic forest ecosystems

    Författare :K. Andreas Aronsson; Nils Ekelund; Thomas Palo; Olli-Pekka Penttinen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood ash; Euglena gracilis; Gammarus pulex; Fontinalis antipyretica; pH; alkalinity; toxicity; nutrients; first order stream; Askåterföring; Vedaska; Akvatiska näringssystem; Mineralnäring; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Wood ash application (WAA) has been recommended mainly for two reasons; i) to avoid depletion of minerals in the soil due to whole tree harvest in the forestry and ii) to mitigate harmful effects of acidification of soil and surface waters. In conclusion, the effects on terrestrial ecosystems and, especially, tree growth, can be attributed to the properties of the ash, the dose applied and the specific site at which the ash is applied.
