  1. 16. Colon cancer : disease related proteins in tumor tissue and serum

    Författare :Uwe Johannes Roblick; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the progress in surgical techniques and adjuvant therapies the mortality of around 60% within the group of colon cancer patients did not decrease significantly over the last decades. This determines a growing demand for biomarkers for early detection, prognosis and risk assessment in colorectal malignancies. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Genetic Alterations in Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma

    Författare :Jenny Welander; Peter Söderkvist; Oliver Gimm; Mercedes Robledo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pheochromocytoma; paraganglioma; genetics; sequencing; cancer; mutation;

    Sammanfattning : Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas are neuroendocrine tumors that arise from neural crest-derived cells of the adrenal medulla and the extra-adrenal paraganglia. They cause hypertension due to an abnormally high production of catecholamines (mainly adrenaline and noradrenaline), with symptoms including recurrent episodes of headache, palpitations and sweating, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. 3. 18. Hereditary Breast Cancer in South Sweden. Early findings from studies on the role of BRCA1

    Författare :Oskar Thor Johannsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; survival analysis; CGH; mRNA in situ hybridization; germline mutations; LOH; Breast neoplasm; BRCA1; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the results from investigations into the role of BRCA1 in hereditary cancer in South Sweden. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) studies found loss of the wildtype allele of BRCA1 to be common in BRCA1 associated breast cancer, but due to the high degree of LOH on chr. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mutational analyses of the tumor suppressor gene Patched1 : role in non-melanoma skin cancer and nevoid basal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Erika Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Western countries, with a rapidly increasing incidence. The majority of these tumors are non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). The most common NMSC is basal cell carcinoma (BCC) followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). In the US more than 1. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Alzheimer's disease mutations and cellular signalling

    Författare :Monika Vestling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease is the most frequent cause of dementia in elderly and is characterised neuropathologically by the extracellular deposition of amyloid plaques (containing the 39-43 amino acid Abeta peptide), as well as intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) composed primarily of an abnormally hyperphosphorylated form of the microtubule-associated protein tau. A proportion (10- 15%) of Alzheimer's disease cases is familial, the remainder being sporadic. LÄS MER
