16. Clinical and molecular studies of β-haemolytic streptococci
Sammanfattning : Beta-haemolytic streptococci (BHS) are important causes of human infections and they have traditionally been grouped according to Lancefield antigens. The spectrum of infections caused by BHS includes pharyngitis, skin infections, bacteraemia/sepsis, endocarditis, septic arthritis and meningitis. LÄS MER
17. Association studies on susceptibility genes in Alzheimer disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia in the elderly. Due to the complexity of AD, it has been difficult to find genetic risk factors predisposing to disease. To date, three genes (APP, PSEN1 and PSEN2) with disease causing genetic variants have been reported for the rare early onset monogenic forms of AD. LÄS MER
18. Diagnostic Evaluation of Schizophrenia for Genetic Studies
Sammanfattning : Schizophrenia is one of the most severe mental disorders. Heredity is accepted as a major causative factor. To find molecular mechanisms behind schizophrenia, patient materials with reliable and valid diagnoses must be identified. LÄS MER
19. Genetic studies on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : A fine mapping and candidate gene approach
Sammanfattning : Linkage in the 2q37 region was evaluated using microsatellite markers in multi-case families from Sweden, Iceland and Norway. Both the two-point and the multipoint linkage analysis show highly significant LOD scores (Z=4.51 and 6.03, respectively). LÄS MER
20. Risk characterization of familial cancer using the Swedish family-cancer database with a special reference to breast cancer
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports on epidemiological studies on family related cancer in Sweden. The Family-Cancer Database was constructed in 1996 from several national registries. Family relations were available from the Generation register, cancer cases from the Cancer registry and socioeconomic information from Censuses. LÄS MER
