  1. 1. Effects of oestrogen on haemodynamic and vascular reactivity - A study in animal models and humans

    Författare :Lisa Brandin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenergic reactivity; endothelium; haemodynamic; hypertension; oestrogen; postmenopausal women; resistance arteries; spontaneously hypertensive rats; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Effects of Oestrogen on Haemodynamic and Vascular Reactivity A study in animal models and humans Lisa Brandin Institute of Medicine, Department of Emergency and Cardiovascular Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Östra, Sahlgrenska Academy, Göteborg University, Göteborg, Sweden ABSTRACT Previous studies have shown that oestrogen, the female sex hormone, plays a protective role in the cardiovascular system. However the site of action remains incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pathophysiological role and clinical relevance of cytokines in hypertensive heart failure. A combined clinical and experimental study

    Författare :Espen Haugen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Heart failure; cytokines; elderly; hypertension; cardiac remodelling; interleukin 6; etanercept; adiponectin;

    Sammanfattning : Although mortality due to heart failure has decreased significantly in the last decade since the introduction of ACE-inhibitors and ?-adrenergic receptor blockers in the management of heart failure, chronic heart failure is still one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality and has a very high frequency for readmission to hospitalization because of the aggravation of heart failure. This accounts for a significantly higher health-care expenditure that is twice as much the cost for cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Serotonergic and steroidal influences on impulsive behaviour in rats

    Författare :John L. Evenden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; impulsivity; serotonin; 8-OH-DPAT; DOI; steroid; testosterone; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Impulsiveness is a trait contributing to the personality of all human beings to a greater and lesser extent. In a pathological form it can lead to impulsive behaviour which is an important component of many psychiatric and neurological disorders. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulatory Functions of the Juxtaglomerular Apparatus

    Författare :Ruisheng Liu; Ole Skott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; mesangial; desensitization; nitric oxide; calcium; P2Y receptor; macula densa; NaCl; luminal. microperfusion; angiotensin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism is an important regulator in the juxtaglomerular apparatus and it detects flow dependent alterations in luminal NaCl concentration ([NaCl]) at the macula densa (MD) cell site via a Na+-K+-2Cl cotransporter. Signals are sent by the MD to adjust the afferent arteriole tone and altering release of renin. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic differences in neuropathy and opioid responses in rats

    Författare :Aleksandra Bulka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Allodynia; genetic difference; neuropathic pain; NMDA-receptor; opioids; rat strains; pharmacokinetics; tolerance.;

    Sammanfattning : The studies examined mechanisms and treatments of experimental neuropathic pain with particular emphasis on the differences between rat strains and sub-strains in basal nociceptive sensitivity, development of neuropathic behaviors and sensitivity to opioid analgesia. In order to study the mechanisms that mediate mechanical allodynia (touch-evoked pain) following ischemic nerve injury to the sciatic nerve in rats, the myelinated primary afferents have been examined in the injured and intact nerves.
