1. Deviant sexual behavior, hormones and sex-chromosomal relationship : A study in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR)
Sammanfattning : The general aim of the present thesis was to gain insight into some biological factors that influencedeviant sexual performance. Two inbred strains selectively bred (hypertension) from the same Wistarrat colony were used: the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) and its normotensive progenitor theWistar Kyoto rat (WKY). 2. Effects of oestrogen on haemodynamic and vascular reactivity - A study in animal models and humans
Sammanfattning : Effects of Oestrogen on Haemodynamic and Vascular Reactivity A study in animal models and humans Lisa Brandin Institute of Medicine, Department of Emergency and Cardiovascular Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Östra, Sahlgrenska Academy, Göteborg University, Göteborg, Sweden ABSTRACT Previous studies have shown that oestrogen, the female sex hormone, plays a protective role in the cardiovascular system. However the site of action remains incompletely understood. LÄS MER
3. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension
Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER
4. Genetic differences in neuropathy and opioid responses in rats
Sammanfattning : The studies examined mechanisms and treatments of experimental neuropathic pain with particular emphasis on the differences between rat strains and sub-strains in basal nociceptive sensitivity, development of neuropathic behaviors and sensitivity to opioid analgesia. In order to study the mechanisms that mediate mechanical allodynia (touch-evoked pain) following ischemic nerve injury to the sciatic nerve in rats, the myelinated primary afferents have been examined in the injured and intact nerves. 5. Serotonergic and steroidal influences on impulsive behaviour in rats
Sammanfattning : Impulsiveness is a trait contributing to the personality of all human beings to a greater and lesser extent. In a pathological form it can lead to impulsive behaviour which is an important component of many psychiatric and neurological disorders. LÄS MER
