16. Structural Insights at Sub-Ångstrom, Medium and Low Resolution: Crystallization of Trypsin, Bacterioferritin, Photosynthetic Reaction Center, and Photosynthetic Core Complex
Sammanfattning : The catalytic action of serine proteases depends on the interplay of a nucleophile, a general base and a general acid. The catalytic triad is composed of serine, histidine and aspartate residues. The serine acts as a nucleophile while the histidine plays a dual role as the general base or acid at different steps of the reaction. LÄS MER
17. Electrostatic Interactions in Complex Liquids : A Thermodynamic Analysis Based on the Poisson-Boltzmann Equation and the Flexible Surface Model
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to analyse physico-chemical properties of some complex liquids using the Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) cell model; to extend the theory to cover bilayer systems with complex global geometry; finally to apply this new extended model to such bilayer systems. The PB cell model provides a practical tool to examine counterion association and phase behaviour for structures of simple geometries; cylindrical and spherical. LÄS MER
18. Changes in ocean geochemistry across the K-Pg boundary interval
Sammanfattning : The Cretaceous - Paleogene boundary (K-Pg, 66 Ma) was a time interval with dramatic changes in the Earth’s climate and the ocean environment. It was characterized by severe disruptions of marine biogeochemical cycles due to a meteorite impact during a time of active volcanism. LÄS MER
19. Genomics and metabolomics in the North Atlantic deep-sea sponge Geodia barretti
Sammanfattning : Sponges are among the earliest diverging taxa in the animal tree of life. They are sessile, filter-feeding animals found in marine and freshwater habitats. Many species are characterized by a close, specific and consistent association with microbes, mainly Bacteria and Archaea. LÄS MER
20. Lipidic-sponge phase crystallisation and time-resolved Laue diffraction studies of bacterial photosynthetic reaction centres
Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the procedure of light capture and converting it into a chemical energy source for the cell. The work-horse of this process are photosynthetic reaction centres, which capture photons with the help of their antenna complexes and use these photons to drive charge separation reactions, and ultimately chemiosmotic coupling.
