  1. 1. Speed Choice : The Driver, the Road and Speed Limits

    Författare :Mats Haglund; Nils Petter Gregersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Driving behaviour; Speed choice; Risk estimates; Enforcement; Attitudes; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Speed choice is one of the more characteristic features of driver behaviour. The speed a driver chooses to travel at determines the degree of difficulty he or she operates under. Higher speeds lead to more accidents, higher accident risk and more severe consequences of an accident. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evaluation of Variable Speed Limits : Empirical Evidence and Simulation Analysis of Stockholm’s Motorway Control System

    Författare :Albania Nissan; Haris N. Koutsopoulos; Tomer Toledo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Motorway Control System; Mainline Control; Variable Speed Limits; Driver Behavior; Capacity; Intelligent Transport Systems; microsimulation model; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Variable Speed Limits (VSL) are often used to improve traffic conditions on congested motorways. VSL can be implemented as mandatory or advisory. The objective of the thesis isto study in detail the effectiveness of VSL. The focus is on both, design parameters and conditions under which VSL are most effective. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Impacts of Speed Limits and Information Systems on Speed Choice from a Safety Perspective

    Författare :Ary P. Silvano; Haris N. Koutsopoulos; Karl-Lennart Bång; Haneen Farah; Johan Olstam; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speed choice; urban; roads; speed limits; road characteristics; traffic safety; cooperative systems and warning messages;

    Sammanfattning : Driving a vehicle is considered a demanding task in a complex dynamic environment. For instance, driving a vehicle on urban roads, where motorized vehicles meet vulnerable road users (VRUs) creates a multifaceted environment with difficult trade-offs and interactions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Loyal Speed Adaptation Speed limitation by means of an active accelerator and its possible impacts in built-up areas

    Författare :Sverker Almqvist; Trafik och väg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active accelerator; LSA; speed; speed reduction; driver behaviour; traffic safety; ISA; Teknik; Technological sciences; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Traditional measures for improved traffic safety need to be complemented by modern technologies in the struggle to reduce the consequences of traffic accidents all over the world. This thesis introduces the Loyal Speed Adaptation (LSA) function based on recent developments in the area of Intelligent Transport Sys-tems to support the vehicle drivers in not using inappropriate or excessive speeds, which have been found to be an important factor for causing serious and fatal accidents.
