  1. 16. Computational Modeling of the Vocal Tract : Applications to Speech Production

    Författare :Saeed Dabbaghchian; Olov Engwall; Sidney Fels; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vocal tract; upper airway; speech production; biomechanical model; acoustic model; vocal tract reconstruction; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Sammanfattning : Human speech production is a complex process, involving neuromuscular control signals, the effects of articulators' biomechanical properties and acoustic wave propagation in a vocal tract tube of intricate shape. Modeling these phenomena may play an important role in advancing our understanding of the involved mechanisms, and may also have future medical applications, e. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the three so called “conflictory speech acts” (“konfliktäre Sprechakte”) “reproach”, “threat” and “conflictory warning”. They all have in common that the speaker signals that he/she is prepared for a verbal conflict. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Probabilistic Modelling of Hearing : Speech Recognition and Optimal Audiometry

    Författare :Svante Stadler; Arne Leijon; Stefan Stenfelt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :auditory models; probabilistic modelling; speech modelling; human speech recognition; hearing aids; cochlear implants; psychoacoustics; diagnostic methods; optimal experiments; audiometry;

    Sammanfattning : Hearing loss afflicts as many as 10\% of our population.Fortunately, technologies designed to alleviate the effects ofhearing loss are improving rapidly, including cochlear implantsand the increasing computing power of digital hearing aids. Thisthesis focuses on theoretically sound methods for improvinghearing aid technology. LÄS MER

  4. 19. CLEFT LIP AND PALATE. CLINICAL STUDIES REGARDING SPEECH AND FACIAL GROWTH

    Författare :Farokh Farzaneh; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; speech; cranio-facial morphology; perceptual speech analysis; long-term results; unilateral cleft lip and palate; cephalometry; von Langenbeck; bilateral cleft lip and palate; Wardill;

    Sammanfattning : Cleft lip and palate (CLP), the most common of all craniofacial anomalies, has an incidence about 2 per 1000 births in the Scandinavian countries. The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Malmö has been a regional centre in southern Sweden for the treatment of patients with CLP since 1954 with about 40 new cases of clefts each year. 5. 20. Impact of deep brain stimulation in the caudal zona incerta on voice tremor and speech in persons with essential tremor

    Författare :Linda Sandström; Fredrik Karlsson; Patric Blomstedt; Lena Hartelius; Adam Vogel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caudal zona incerta; deep brain stimulation; essential tremor; speech function; speech intelligibility; speech production; voice tremor;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a symptomatic treatment for people with essential tremor (ET) who have unsatisfactory tremor relief with pharmacological treatment alone. A common symptom of ET is voice tremor, but only about 50% of patients with voice tremor get a satisfactory result with DBS. LÄS MER
