  1. 1. Found speech and humans in the loop : Ways to gain insight into large quantities of speech

    Författare :Per Fallgren; Jens Edlund; Fred Cummins; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Found data; found speech; human-in-the-loop; sound browsing; dimensionality reduction; visualization; crowdsourcing; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Sammanfattning : Found data - data used for something other than the purpose for which it was originally collected - holds great value in many regards. It typically reflects high ecological validity, a strong cultural worth, and there are significant quantities at hand. However, it is noisy, hard to search through, and its contents are often largely unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cognition in Hearing Aid Users : Memory for Everyday Speech

    Författare :Hoi Ning Elaine Ng; Jerker Rönnberg; Mary Rudner; Thomas Lunner; Kevin Munro; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Hearing aid; working memory; free recall; noise reduction; speech recognition; Hörapparat; arbetsminne; återgivning; brusreducering; taluppfattning;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigated the importance of cognition for speech understanding in experienced and new hearing aid users. The aims were 1) to develop a cognitive test (Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall, or SWIR test) to measure the effects of a noise reduction algorithm on processing of highly intelligible speech (everyday sentences); 2) to investigate, using the SWIR test, whether hearing aid signal processing would affect memory for heard speech in experienced hearing aid users; 3) to test whether the effects of signal processing on the ability to recall speech would interact with background noise and individual differences in working memory capacity; 4) to explore the potential clinical application of the SWIR test; and 5) to examine the relationship between cognition and speech recognition in noise in new users over the first six months of hearing aid use. 3. 3. Knowledge-based speech enhancement

    Författare :Sriram Srinivasan; Bastiaan Kleijn; Rainer Martin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speech enhancement; noise reduction; linear predictive coe±cients; autoregressive; codebooks; maximum-likelihood; Bayesian; nonstationary noise; blind source separation.; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Sammanfattning : Speech is a fundamental means of human communication. In the last several decades, much effort has been devoted to the efficient transmission and storage of speech signals. With advances in technology making mobile communication ubiquitous, communications anywhere has become a reality. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Prosodic Phrasing in Spontaneous Swedish

    Författare :Petra Hansson; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; intonation.; spontaneous speech; optimality theory; prominence; grouping; phrasing; Southern Swedish; Swedish; speech planning; speech production; speech perception; prosody; phonology; phonetics; Fonetik; fonologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most important functions of prosody is to divide the flow of speech into chunks. The chunking, or prosodic phrasing, of speech plays an important role in both the production and perception of speech. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of deep brain stimulation in the caudal zona incerta on voice tremor and speech in persons with essential tremor

    Författare :Linda Sandström; Fredrik Karlsson; Patric Blomstedt; Lena Hartelius; Adam Vogel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caudal zona incerta; deep brain stimulation; essential tremor; speech function; speech intelligibility; speech production; voice tremor;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a symptomatic treatment for people with essential tremor (ET) who have unsatisfactory tremor relief with pharmacological treatment alone. A common symptom of ET is voice tremor, but only about 50% of patients with voice tremor get a satisfactory result with DBS. LÄS MER
