  1. 1. Information state based speech recognition

    Författare :Rebecca Jonson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; dialogue systems; speech recognition; language modelling; dialogue move; dialogue context; ASR; higher level knowledge; linguistic knowledge; N-Best re-ranking; confidence scoring; confidence annotation; information state; ISU approach;

    Sammanfattning : One of the pitfalls in spoken dialogue systems is the brittleness of automatic speech recognition (ASR). ASR systems often misrecognize user input and they are unreliable when it comes to judging their own performance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lip-motion biometrics for audio-visual identity recognition

    Författare :Maycel Isaac Faraj; Massimo Tistarelli; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biometrics; Lip motion; Audio-visual signals; Speech recognition; Speaker recognition; Digit recognition; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Biometric recognition systems have been established as powerful security tools to prevent unknown users from entering high risk systems and areas. They are increasingly being utilized in surveillance and access management (city centers, banks, etc.) by using individuals' physical or biological characteristics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Perceptually motivated speech recognition and mispronunciation detection

    Författare :Christos Koniaris; Olov Engwall; Martin Cooke; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; feature extraction; feature selection; auditory models; MFCCs; speech recognition; distortion measures; perturbation analysis; psychoacoustics; human perception; sensitivity matrix; pronunciation error detection; phoneme; second language; perceptual assessment;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is the result of a research effort performed in two fields of speech technology, i.e., speech recognition and mispronunciation detection. Although the two areas are clearly distinguishable, the proposed approaches share a common hypothesis based on psychoacoustic processing of speech signals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cognition in Hearing Aid Users : Memory for Everyday Speech

    Författare :Hoi Ning Elaine Ng; Jerker Rönnberg; Mary Rudner; Thomas Lunner; Kevin Munro; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Hearing aid; working memory; free recall; noise reduction; speech recognition; Hörapparat; arbetsminne; återgivning; brusreducering; taluppfattning;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigated the importance of cognition for speech understanding in experienced and new hearing aid users. The aims were 1) to develop a cognitive test (Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall, or SWIR test) to measure the effects of a noise reduction algorithm on processing of highly intelligible speech (everyday sentences); 2) to investigate, using the SWIR test, whether hearing aid signal processing would affect memory for heard speech in experienced hearing aid users; 3) to test whether the effects of signal processing on the ability to recall speech would interact with background noise and individual differences in working memory capacity; 4) to explore the potential clinical application of the SWIR test; and 5) to examine the relationship between cognition and speech recognition in noise in new users over the first six months of hearing aid use. 5. 5. Using the speech intelligibility index for evaluating speech test results and hearing aid characteristics

    Författare :Lennart Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; articulation index; hearing aid; hearing loss; speech intelligibility index; speech recognition;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding speech is crucial for human communication. Therefore, speech audiometry plays an important part in the assessment of the hearing impaired, and improved speech intelligibility is a major goal of hearing aid fitting. LÄS MER
