1. More or Less IgE : Therapeutic Vaccines, Adjuvants and Genes and Their Effect on IgE Levels
Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an important mediator in atopic allergies. This thesis describes the development of a therapeutic vaccine against IgE and its effects in rats and dogs. The development of an assay to determine IgE levels in dogs, and the finding of a chromosome region in rats that affects IgE levels are also reported. LÄS MER
2. The rise and fall of IgE
Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) occurs exclusively in mammals and is one of five immunoglobulin (Ig) classes found in man. Unlike other isotypes, IgE is best known for its pathological effects, whereas its physiological role remains somewhat elusive. LÄS MER
3. Specific IgE-profiles and allergy prediction
Sammanfattning : Presence of antibodies of type Immunoglobulin E (IgE-ab), often called sensitization, is common and often precede development of atopic disease, including food allergy. While not all IgE-sensitized individuals develop food allergy, some seem to be at a higher risk. LÄS MER
4. Antibody repertoires : Exploration of their role in allergic disease and facilitation of reliable analyses thereof
Sammanfattning : Allergic disease affects millions of individuals worldwide and leads to both impaired life quality of the affected individuals and large economic costs for the society. Allergen-specific antibodies of IgE type act as one of the key players in the disease, by activating effector cells upon binding of its allergen. LÄS MER
5. Immunological mechanisms involved in seasonal pollen allergy and allergen-specific immunotherapy
Sammanfattning : Th1/Th2-like T-cell responses were studied by stimulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with allergens or antigens followed by restimulation with mitogens to induce high cytokine synthesis. Allergen-stimulation in vitro induced Th2-skewed cytokine synthesis by PBMCs from birch-pollen-allergic patients. LÄS MER
