16. Sphagnum limits : Physiology, morphology and climate
Sammanfattning : Sphagnum is the most important plant genus in terms of terrestrial carbon cycling. It and the habitats it creates store an equivalent of ~68% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. The genus has little dispersal limitation and the mire habitats are functionally similar at global scales. LÄS MER
17. Physiologically based modelling of nanoparticle biodistribution and biokinetics
Sammanfattning : To predict the toxicity of nanoparticles (1-100 nm), it is crucial to understand their biokinetics i.e. how they are taken up, distributed, dissolved and removed from the body. Such information can be gained from biodistribution studies in animals. LÄS MER
18. Plant species diversity patterns in a Swedish rural landscape : effects of the past and consequences for the future
Sammanfattning : Plant species richness in rural landscapes is threatened as grassland management ceases or changes, and as many remaining semi-natural grasslands are becoming increasingly fragmented. This thesis is a study of plant species diversity in a rural landscape in south-eastern Sweden, and its relationship to management history and landscape pattern. LÄS MER
19. Modelling of Kraft Cooking Kinetics Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : A kinetic model describing the kraft cooking degradation reactions for softwood lignin and carbohydrates was developed in this thesis. The model satisfactorily predicted the data for modified as well as conventional cooking schemes, something which eluded earlier published models. LÄS MER
20. The CRACKER Program and Modelling of Äspö Groundwater Chemistry
Sammanfattning : A sufficiently accurate understanding of groundwater chemistry and interactions between minerals and groundwater is of fundamental importance for performance assessment in connection with a repository for nuclear waste. Here, a model is described, which has been able to give agreement between observed and modelled values for more than ten element concentrations (including pH and pE values). LÄS MER
