  1. 6. Grassland restoration : Connectivity, plant community change and cows

    Författare :Rozália E. Kapás; Sara Cousins; Adam Kimberley; Lars A. Brudvig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; colonization; connectivity; dispersal; distance to species pool; diversity; grassland restoration; grassland specialist species; grazing livestock; habitat availability; plant community composition; restoration; semi-natural grassland; species richness; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The ecological significance of semi-natural grasslands is high because these habitats provide a home for a diverse flora and fauna and support a range of associated ecosystem services. Due to large-scale land-use changes the extent of grassland habitat has declined. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Investigations of species richness effects on ecosystem functioning using stream-living macroinvertebrates as model organisms

    Författare :Micael Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Species richness; species loss; process rates; ecosystem function; streams; macroinvertebrates; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis deals with effects of changed species richness on process rates among stream-living macroinvertebrates. Global biodiversity is decreasing rapidly and it is poorly known what the consequences of this loss may be for ecosystems and the services they provide. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Microclimate at range margins : Consequences for boreal forest understory species

    Författare :Caroline Greiser; Kristoffer Hylander; Johan Ehrlén; Eric Meineri; Miska Luoto; Alistair Jump; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microclimate; species distribution; range dynamics; boreal forest; canopy cover; topography; soil moisture; air humidity; bryophytes; lichens; vascular plants; biotic interactions; forest management; biodiversity conservation; ekologi och evolution; Ecology and Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : A warmer climate will shift species distributional range margins poleward, but near-ground microclimates may modify these shifts. Cold-adapted northern species at their rear edge may survive locally in microrefugia with a colder microclimate, and warm-adapted southern species at their leading edge may colonize stepping stone habitats with a warmer microclimate. 4. 9. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites

    Författare :Inga Katharina Goetz; Jochen M. Schneider; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Maria Teresa Pérez Prado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additive manufacturing; bulk metallic glasses; nanoscale clustering; convective flow; laser nitriding; laser powder bed fusion; metallic glass - ceramic composites; oxygen impurities; mechanical properties; magnetic properties; viscosity; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Disentangling Lecania

    Författare :Rikke Reese Næsborg; Leif Tibell; Stefan Ekman; Bengt Oxelman; Christian Printzen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Crustose lichens; Phylogeny; Taxonomy; Morphology; New species; Phylogenetic diversity; Rare species; ITS; mt-SSU; RPB2; IGS; Biologi; Lecania; Ramalinaceae;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on phylogenetic, taxonomic, ecological, and conservation aspects of the crustose lichen genus Lecania (Ramalinaceae, lichenized Ascomycota). Lecania has previously been defined on basis of relatively few morphological characters, and the genus had never been treated in molecular phylogenies. LÄS MER
