1. Ground beetle dynamics in intensively managed agricultural landscapes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have focused on studying dynamics of ground beetle assemblages in intensively managed agricultural landscapes. By definition, the land cover of these landscapes is dominated by annually tilled farmland, comprising a range of different crop types, in the context of the southern Swedish province of Scania mostly winter wheat, spring barley, winter rapeseed, and sugar beets. 2. Mosquitoes as a Part of Wetland Biodiversity
Sammanfattning : Wetlands contain both aquatic and terrestrial environments which generates high biodiversity. However, they are commonly associated with mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae), and mosquitoes are usually regarded as negative by humans because they can cause nuisance and transmit diseases. LÄS MER
3. Bird Species in Urban and Agricultural Landscapes : Bird diversity patterns along an urbanisation gradient and crop damage caused by birds on the Deccan Plateau, India
Sammanfattning : The major human activities that have transformed the Earth include agriculture and urbanization. The present study was conducted to contribute to a description of the effect on birds of urbanization and agriculture in an Indian region. LÄS MER
4. Effects of habitat structure on tropical fish assemblages
Sammanfattning : Rates of habitat alteration and degradation are increasing worldwide due to anthropogenic influence. On coral reefs, the loss of live coral reduces structural complexity while facilitating algal increase. In many coastal lagoons seagrass and corals are cleared to make room for cultivated macroalgae. 5. Resistance and recolonization of bryophyte assemblages following disturbances : - detecting patterns and exploring mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Disturbances are ubiquitous features of most northern forest ecosystems. The subsequent response of plant assemblages on both short (resistance or not) and long term (recolonization or not) will depend on a number of factors operating at several spatial scales. LÄS MER
