1. Migration strategies of raptors – spatio-temporal adaptations and constraints in travelling and foraging
Sammanfattning : My dissertation is about bird migration and addresses questions about how raptors adapt to the fluctuating environments during the transition seasons between breeding and wintering. The migration is highly affected by local prey abundance, foraging strategies, weather conditions and landscape patterns along the migration routes as well as navigation and orientation mechanisms and cues. 2. Plant community assembly and biodiversity: a spatio-temporal perspective
Sammanfattning : Biodiversity, the variety of life at all organisational levels from genes to ecosystems, affects ecosystem processes and therefore the goods and services ecosystems provide. More research is needed to provide new insights into biodiversity changes and the processes that drive these changes, in order to formulate effective policy and conservation measures to stop the ongoing biodiversity loss. 3. Modelling spatial and temporal species distribution in the Baltic Sea phytobenthic zone
Sammanfattning : Statistical modelling is often used to relate the presence or abundance of species to environmental predictors, thereby providing a basis for predictive mapping of species or biodiversity. The variables included must thus be relevant and reflect actual changes in the environment. LÄS MER
4. Applying emerging genetic methods to wild model systems
Sammanfattning : Genetic material is an invaluable source of information for assessments of wild populations. By using information derived from genetic markers, individuals can be identified and tracked over time, enabling studies of a wide range of behavioral, ecological, and evolutionary processes. LÄS MER
5. Cell adhesion molecules during odontogenesis and tooth-related diseases
Sammanfattning : Cell adhesion molecules play essential roles in the development and disease of tooth and oral structures, as well as in the maintenance of adult tissue structure/function. It has been shown that different types of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) play an important part in craniofacial development when ectomesenchymal cells migrate from the neural list to the primitive oral cavity, giving rise to the palatal processes and tooth germs.
